What I do to preserve sourdough as long as possible

How to freeze sliced sourdough bread

  • Slice the bread.

  • Place it all in a ziplock bag.

  • Use a straw to remove as much air as possible.

  • Place it in the freezer!

You can enjoy each slice by bringing it to room temp or popping it directly in the toaster for a crispier Sourdough toast. This works so well because it allows you to take out one slice as needed!!

I know sometimes a whole loaf can feel like a lot for just a couple people to finish in a few days. I'm a big believer that NO bread should go to waste. This is a great way to enjoy it spaced out over the week/month!

How to Freeze Sourdough Bread

Did you know sourdough bread freezes so well and it's so easy to do!
Plus it lasts for up to 3 months in the freezer! Here are my favorite ways to freeze it!

How to freeze a whole or partial loaf of sourdough bread

  • Wrap the whole or partial loaf of sourdough in tinfoil.

  • Place the wrapped sourdough into a ziplock bag.

  • Use a straw to remove as much air as possible.

  • Place it in the freezer!

When you're ready to enjoy your sourdough, simply remove it from the freezer and let it warm to room temp (keep it wrapped). Preheat your oven to 350F. Unwrap the sourdough and bake it on a cookie sheet or directly on your oven rack for 10-15 min, or until desired crust is achieved.

Tip: If your sourdough seems dry after you unwrap it, you can spray it generously with water before baking! Because sourdough is made with just 3 simple ingredients.. flour, water, salt, spraying your sourdough with water actually just rehydrates the bread! Then when you bake the loaf, just make sure you bake it until the water has evaporated, and that sourdough crunch is evident on the outside again!
